This Privacy Policy describes how Hypo-Campus ("we", "our", or "the app") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our mobile application. We are committed to keeping your data private — your flashcards and study history stay on your device and iCloud account.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Data You Provide
Flashcard Content: Front and back text, card type (Classic, Multiple Choice, True/False, Fill-in-the-Blank), and card images you capture with your camera
Deck Information: Deck names and creation dates you define
Review Ratings: How you grade each card (Again / Hard / Good / Easy) and when each review occurs
App Preferences: Theme selection, view styles, shuffle settings, and other customization options
1.2 Automatically Generated Data
Streak & Review History: Daily review counts and consecutive-day streaks derived from your review activity
Achievement Progress: Milestones unlocked based on review volume, streaks, and cram sessions
Scheduled Reminders: Notification delivery times calculated from your review schedule
1.3 AI-Generated Content (Optional Feature)
When you use the Create with AI feature, the topic or text you enter is sent to Google's Gemini API (via Firebase Vertex AI) to generate flashcard suggestions. This data is transmitted over HTTPS and processed by Google according to their privacy policy. No other personal data is sent to Google.
1.4 Data We Do NOT Collect
Health Data: We do not access HealthKit or any health-related information
Location Data: We do not collect or request your location at any time
Contacts: We do not access your address book or contact list
Personal Identifiers: We do not collect your name, email address, or Apple ID
Microphone / Audio: We do not record audio
Analytics / Crash Reports: We do not use third-party analytics SDKs that profile your behaviour
2. How We Use Your Information
2.1 Primary Uses
To display your flashcard decks and power spaced-repetition scheduling
To track your daily review streak, achievements, and study statistics
To deliver local push notifications reminding you to review due cards
To synchronize your data across your own devices via iCloud (if enabled)
To generate AI flashcard suggestions when you explicitly request them
2.2 Data Usage Principles
Data is used solely to provide app functionality
We do not share, sell, or monetise your data in any way
We do not use your data for advertising or user profiling
All data remains under your control and can be deleted at any time
3. Data Storage and Security
3.1 Local Storage
All flashcard content, deck data, and card images are stored locally on your device using CoreData. Your data remains on your device unless you enable iCloud sync.
3.2 iCloud / CloudKit Sync (Optional)
If enabled, your flashcard decks and card data are synchronised to your personal iCloud account via Apple CloudKit
Review history, achievements, and streak-freeze charges are synchronised via iCloud Key-Value Store
All data is encrypted in transit and at rest using Apple's iCloud security infrastructure
We do not have access to your iCloud data — it is stored in your personal iCloud container
3.3 Camera Photos
Photos you take with your camera for card images are stored as compressed JPEG data directly inside your local CoreData store (and optionally synced via iCloud). Photos are never uploaded to our servers or any third party other than your own iCloud account.
3.4 Data Security
All data is protected by iOS and iCloud encryption features
We do not operate our own servers — no data is transmitted to us
Push notification tokens are handled entirely by Apple's APNs infrastructure
4. Third-Party Services
4.1 Google Gemini / Firebase Vertex AI
The optional Create with AI feature uses Google's Gemini language model via Firebase Vertex AI. When you use this feature, the text you type as a card topic is sent to Google's servers to generate suggestions. This is the only data sent outside your device. Google's handling of this data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy and Firebase Terms of Service.
You can use Hypo-Campus fully without ever using the AI feature — all other functionality is entirely on-device.
4.2 Apple Services
iCloud / CloudKit: Optional cross-device sync governed by Apple's iCloud Terms and Conditions
Apple Push Notification service (APNs): Used to deliver local review reminders; no personal content is included in notification payloads
4.3 No Other Third Parties
We do not integrate advertising networks, analytics SDKs (e.g., Amplitude, Mixpanel, Firebase Analytics), social media SDKs, or any other third-party data collectors.
5. Your Rights and Choices
5.1 Access and Control
You can view all your flashcard and deck data directly within the app
You can edit or delete any card, deck, or review entry at any time
You can reset achievement progress by deleting and reinstalling the app
5.2 iCloud Sync
You can disable iCloud sync in iOS Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Hypo-Campus. Disabling sync stops synchronisation but does not delete local data on your device.
5.3 Camera Permission
Camera access is requested only when you tap the camera button inside the card editor. You can revoke camera permission at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera → Hypo-Campus. The app remains fully functional without camera access.
5.4 Push Notifications
You can disable review reminder notifications in iOS Settings → Notifications → Hypo-Campus or within the app's Settings screen.
5.5 Data Deletion
Deleting the app from your device removes all local CoreData and UserDefaults data immediately
iCloud data can be deleted via iOS Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → Hypo-Campus
We do not retain any data after app deletion because we never receive it in the first place
6. Children's Privacy
Hypo-Campus is rated 4+ on the App Store and is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Because all data is stored on-device or in the user's own iCloud account and we do not receive any user data on our servers, this risk is minimal. 7. Push Notifications and Background Processing
Hypo-Campus uses push notifications and background processing to:
Remind you when cards are due for review
Alert you when your review streak is at risk
Synchronise data with iCloud in the background
Background activity occurs only when necessary. No additional personal information is collected during background processing. Notification content is generated locally on your device and does not pass through our servers.
8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by:
Updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page
Posting a notice within the app for significant changes
Your continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
9. Data Retention
Your data is retained on your device for as long as you use the app
Review history stored in iCloud KV Store is automatically pruned to the last 365 days
Deleting the app removes all local data immediately
We do not retain any data on our own servers because we never receive it
10. International Users
If you use Hypo-Campus from outside the United States, please note that:
iCloud data is stored in Apple's infrastructure, which may be located in different regions depending on your Apple ID country
AI feature requests (Gemini) are processed by Google, which may transfer data internationally
By using the app, you consent to the transfer of your data as described in this policy
